About Lodge Room

Lodge Room is a 500-capacity concert hall in Highland Park, Los Angeles, set inside the preserved meeting room of the 1923 Highland Park Masonic Temple. Its strongest visual hook comes from the old hall itself: cherry wood paneling and Egyptian-themed anaglypta wall coverings frame the room. Along the walls, a carpeted platform rises six inches above the floor, giving early arrivals a useful sightline advantage in a crowd that fills fast.

A hall remade twice

Highland Park Masonic Lodge No. 382 built its brick Renaissance Revival home in 1923, with income-producing retail at street level and lodge and banquet spaces upstairs. The Masons occupied it for six decades, then sold after seismic-upgrade costs outpaced their means. A three-year rehabilitation began in 1985 and brought the building back as a community and banquet facility in 1988, preserving key period finishes while adapting the upper floors for public use.

The current chapter began in 2017, when the second-floor lodge room and banquet hall were repurposed as Lodge Room and Checker Hall. Lodge Room opened that fall as a performance space, while Checker Hall took shape as its adjoining restaurant and bar. The conversion retained the old hall’s woodwork, murals and Masonic visual language, giving contemporary shows a setting with a specific architectural memory instead of a blank-box club frame.

The crowd-level view

Programming is concert-first and eclectic, with rock, indie, electronic, pop, alternative, folk, hip-hop and R&B sharing the calendar alongside special performances and events. The main room operates primarily as a standing-floor venue, supported by three bars, a full stage and a purpose-built sound system. For the clearest view, the raised perimeter is the practical move; Checker Hall beside the venue offers a sit-down pre-show option with its own bar and dining room.
