About Brooklyn Steel
Brooklyn Steel is an 1,800-capacity concert hall in East Williamsburg, built inside a former steel-fabrication plant. The Bowery Presents room opened in April 2017 with the industrial bones left visible: steel structure, a cavernous main floor, and a production system whose retained gantry crane helps shift the weighty movable stage. Its scale sits between a club and an arena, while raised viewing areas give the room a closer feel than its capacity suggests.
A factory’s opening run
The Bowery Presents converted the Frost Street fabrication plant into a 20,000-square-foot music venue and opened it on April 6, 2017. The project kept the building’s manufacturing identity central to its name and design, pairing exposed and repurposed steel with a stage engineered to move and resize the room for different crowd sizes. That flexibility lets Brooklyn Steel operate at roughly 1,200 people or at its full 1,800-person capacity.
Its first statement arrived immediately: Brooklyn-based LCD Soundsystem opened the venue with five sold-out shows. The run gave the new hall a local opening act with arena-level demand, and it set the practical premise for the space: a large general-admission room designed for artists whose crowds had outgrown smaller Brooklyn clubs.
The room on show night
Brooklyn Steel’s calendar, handled by The Bowery Presents, centers pop and electronic bills alongside indie, rock, hip-hop, and touring crossover acts. Most shows use a standing general-admission floor, with raised platforms and a horseshoe mezzanine creating several elevated sightline options. Three bars spread service through the venue, and the preferred terrace adds a second-floor viewing area with access to the adjacent Ludlow Lounge. For viewers who value a broad stage view, the balcony and platforms are the room’s defining advantage.
