About Signature Brew Blackhorse

Signature Brew Blackhorse is a roughly 300-capacity Walthamstow venue built into a functioning brewery. Its central distinction comes into view at showtime: the Brew Hall turns from production floor into performance room, with guests gathered among brewhouse and fermentation tanks. This is a gig setting for people who like their pints brewery-fresh and their room feel industrial, social and close to the action.

A crowd-funded move, then a brewery-stage release party

Signature Brew began in 2011, founded by Sam McGregor and Tom Bott as a music-focused brewing company. Brewing started at Leyton Business Centre in 2015; the company then pursued crowd funding for a larger East London base, reporting that 550-plus investors took the campaign to 157% of its target in 2018. The push financed a move into a new Blackhorse Lane brewery, designed around a taproom and events as well as production.

The Blackhorse Road home launched on November 17, 2019, with live music, street food and brewery tours. That opening expanded brewing capacity to 20,000 hectolitres annually, four times the previous level. The music link has remained literal: in 2024, the Libertines performed at the brewery to mark the release of All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, whose album campaign also included a Signature Brew collaboration.

The room on a show night

Blackhorse programs regular special-guest live acts and also makes its spaces available for private events, giving the calendar a blend of concerts, DJ-led parties, community sessions and larger multi-act bills. Indie, rock, R&B, alternative, pop, hip-hop, jazz and folk all fit its current bill. The main Brew Hall has a stage, sound desk, DJ equipment, band backline and D&B PA; beyond it sit the Brewers Bar, yard seating and covered outdoor space. Expect a standing-room concert atmosphere with beer tanks as the backdrop and food available on site.
