About Ninety One Living Room

Ninety One Living Room is a 250-capacity Brick Lane venue built for the point where a live set turns into a late-night dancefloor. Jazz sits at the centre of its programme, alongside DJ-led dance music and emerging acts. Its concrete distinction comes with the address: the room occupies the Old Brewmaster’s House within the Truman Brewery, a Grade II-listed building originally made for the brewery’s head brewer around 1834.

A brewery house, then a second act

The building began around 1834 as a four-storey house for Truman’s head brewer; Historic England added it to the Grade II list on December 29, 1950. Its music-bar chapter arrived in 1995, when Vibe Bar opened here as a free house, bar, internet café and record shop. Vibe closed in November 2014, leaving a clear break in the site’s nightlife history. In 2018, the address reappeared as Ninety One Living Room, a change recorded by London CAMRA. That sequence explains the room’s appeal: an unusually formal old brewery façade and heritage shell now hold a sociable, music-first operation with live programming, DJs and weekend dancing.

The room when the lights are on

Most events use tickets, though Ninety One also presents free live music, DJ sets, parties and cultural events. Expect a jazz-and-dance-music core, with the kind of crossover programming that brings emerging players alongside experienced artists. The first-floor room has a Funktion-One system, a stage and dancefloor, plus two bars; an outdoor courtyard and bar sit at ground level. Capacity reaches 250 standing indoors, with seating for 80, giving shows a close, busy feel while leaving a separate outdoor reset between sets or during a DJ night.
