About E1 London

E1 London is a 1,600-capacity club in Wapping, East London, built for large, late-running dance events. Its defining feature is a bespoke Funktion-One system developed with Sound Services, paired with immersive lighting, lasers and CO2 effects. The industrial setting gives the room its character: this is a full-scale club environment for hearing DJs at volume, with production designed around the dancefloor instead of a conventional concert stage.

A 27-hour opening statement

E1 opened in 2017 at the Wapping site previously occupied by Studio Spaces, a club and photography studio; DJ Mag also described the location as the site of a former factory. The conversion involved major changes to the interior architecture and sound, producing E1’s current format. Its first New Year’s Eve event ran for 27 hours, a marathon that set the scale of the project from day one.

That opening brought Ben Klock, Maceo Plex, Âme, Mano Le Tough, Recondite and Rødhåd to the bill. The selection captured the venue’s early proposition: an industrial East London base with room for international techno and house names, extended sets and a dancefloor-first approach. E1 has remained independently owned since its launch, with a small team framing the club as an open communal space for dancing.

The room now

E1’s booking identity centres on electronic music, spanning techno, house and trance, with underground selectors alongside global headliners. The club has three rooms and an outdoor area, allowing promoters to run concurrent music spaces alongside a chill-out zone. Expect a warehouse feel, sizeable crowds and a sound-led experience: Funktion-One coverage is the central physical asset, while custom lighting rigs, laser arrays and CO2 cannons provide the visual counterpart. Entry is for guests aged 18 and above with photo ID, under a management-controlled door policy.
