About Uebel & Gefährlich

Uebel & Gefährlich is a 1,000-capacity music club on the fourth floor of Hamburg’s Feldstraße bunker, a former Flakturm IV overlooking the Heiligengeistfeld. Its defining feature is the setting: live shows and late-night dance events unfold inside a massive former air-raid and anti-aircraft structure built during the Second World War. The club works across a large ballroom and the smaller Turmzimmer, giving its programme both full-room concert scale and a second-space club format.

A bunker becomes a club house

The building came first. Constructed in 1942–43 as a flak tower, it served both air defence and civilians seeking shelter during bombing raids; after 1945 it housed homes, restaurants, a cinema, theatre and NDR’s Tagesschau operation. Investor Matzen secured a hereditary lease with Hamburg in 1993, beginning its media-bunker era. Uebel & Gefährlich opened there in 2006, created by Tino Hanekamp and Wolf von Waldenfels. The address had already carried a sharper chapter of nightlife history: its previous J’s disco was hit by a hand-grenade attack on April 29, 2000, leaving nine people seriously injured; J’s closed and entered bankruptcy in 2001. The present club therefore arrived after a five-year gap, recasting the fourth floor for concerts, DJ nights and cultural events.

Two rooms, wide-ranging bills

Expect a broadly booked popular-music venue: MIZ records about 285 concerts annually, alongside dance and non-musical events. The calendar supports that range, pairing bunker raves with touring rock and metal shows, while the venue packet points to pop, electronic, hip-hop, alternative, indie, Latin, folk and rock. The main Ballsaal carries the large-room experience, with capacity above 900, and the Turmzimmer provides the smaller companion space. It suits listeners happy with a dense, enclosed club atmosphere and an event calendar that changes genre by genre.
