Pilsen Yards

Pilsen Yards is a music-driven bar and restaurant in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, with capacity for 260 standing guests at a full-venue event. Its defining feature is the covered patio: a clear-roofed, wood-trussed space with radiant-heated concrete underfoot and overhead heaters, giving DJ nights an outdoor feel through every season. The program favors vinyl selectors and a convivial, food-and-drink-first crowd over a conventional club format.

A patio built from a reset

The Abu-Taleb family remade the site after closing its previous restaurant, Monnie Burke’s, in January 2020 for reconcepting. Pilsen Yards was first slated for a November opening, then pandemic-era dining restrictions pushed the launch to January 15, 2021. Paul Abu-Taleb positioned music at the center from the start, with weekend vinyl DJs and local musicians alongside art programming. The name reaches toward Pilsen’s industrial past: it refers to a lumber distribution center near 18th Street and Blue Island that was once described as the world’s largest, and the new room incorporated salvaged wood connected to that history. The venue’s opening-era art calendar also began in November 2020, giving the project a cultural footing before its full restaurant debut.

The room now

Expect a DJ-led, dance-friendly soundtrack shaped by Latin selections, house, disco, soul, funk, hip-hop, and Afro-Latin records. Vinyl sets run Thursday through Sunday, while the venue channels event inquiries through its events team and accommodates private parties or full buyouts. For a show, the best vantage point comes from treating Pilsen Yards as a flexible social room: the patio supplies the open-air center of gravity, while a 30-seat square bar and two dining areas spread the crowd beyond the music. The Alderman, a separate 16-seat cocktail bar within the building, offers a quieter detour between sets.
