Lucky Rabbit

Lucky Rabbit is a Jonestown live-music bar and kitchen serving the Lake Travis side of greater Austin. Capacity is unlisted. Its defining feature is “Old Rusty,” a recycled 1950s school bus that works as the outdoor patio bar beside 6,000 square feet of deck space. The result is a roadhouse-scale hang with a small performance stage: useful for a casual local-band night, a drink after the lake, or a set where conversation and lawn games share the bill with the music.

A 2022 start built for the lake crowd

Lucky Rabbit opened in early 2022 as a new live-music restaurant and bar on Ranch Road 1431. Founders Matt Morcher and Sandra Cleveland brought a combined 32 years in the restaurant business to the project; Morcher had previously worked at Austin operations including Jack Allen’s and Z Tejas. The venue’s May 14, 2022 grand-opening program offered music from noon through 11 p.m, led by John Taylor, Mike Valliere, Kendi Jean, and North of Luck. That all-day launch established the format still central to the place: food, drinks, outdoor social space, and a steady local-performance schedule. In October 2022, the Austin Chronicle described the small stage as hosting live music seven nights a week, with both developing and established local talent. A year later, Morcher and Cleveland’s team expanded the concept into Leander with the Rabbit Hole, described as a Lucky Rabbit spin-off. The original Jonestown room remains the larger, outdoor-facing branch of that operation.

The room, seven nights a week

Lucky Rabbit books a broad community-bar program: local bands alongside open mics, karaoke, themed entertainment, and regular daytime sessions. Country, rock, folk, blues-leaning material, pop covers, jazz brunches, and rootsy Austin-band sets all fit the house’s flexible bill. Indoors, the stage is small and the setting reads as a bar first; outdoors, canopies, oak trees, a dog run, deck seating, and Old Rusty create the main sense of scale. Pick an outdoor table for space and a looser social atmosphere; move closer to the stage for the music-focused view.
